Voice-Based Cooperative Society Software for Blind

A First-of-Its-Kind Innovation in Asia

FeatureImage

Digital transformation in cooperative societies often overlooks accessibility. For blind and visually impaired members, traditional software systems create significant barriers due to screen dependency and complex interfaces. To address this gap, Sitara IT Innovations Pvt. Ltd. developed Asia’s first voice-enabled cooperative society software, designed exclusively for blind cooperative societies (Palahin societies)—a landmark achievement in inclusive technology.

The Challenge

Blind cooperative societies manage complex financial operations involving member accounts, deposits, loans, and reporting. Existing systems relied heavily on:

  • Visual navigation
  • Manual assistance from staff
  • Paper-based or verbal intermediaries

This limited independence, slowed transactions, and reduced accessibility for visually impaired members.

Designing a digital system usable without sight was a major challenge—requiring rethinking how users interact with software.

The Solution

Sitara IT developed a web-based cooperative society application with built-in voice guidance, allowing blind users to operate the system using spoken instructions instead of screens.

The software delivers:

  • Full voice-driven navigation
  • Spoken prompts for transactions and queries
  • Multilingual support for regional Indian languages

This ensured blind members could manage accounts, access balances, and perform transactions independently and confidently.

Key Capabilities

  • Voice-based instructions for all major workflows
  • Support for 12+ regional Indian languages
  • Web-based architecture for easy adoption
  • Designed specifically for blind and visually impaired users
  • Seamless integration with cooperative society operations

Recognition & Inauguration

The software was formally inaugurated in Mysuru by Sri Someswaranatha Swamiji of the Adichunchanagiri branch mutt.

The launch was attended by:

  • Rangarav Krishna, Managing Director, Sitara IT Innovations
  • Veerakathiah, President, Karnataka State KSEC Society for the Blind
  • Leaders and representatives from the cooperative sector

The initiative was widely recognized as the first of its kind in Asia, marking a milestone in accessibility-focused software development.
